Movies to be Excited for in 2018

Just a few great movies to be on the lookout for!

2017 was a great year for cinema, and 2018 is looking just as good, if not even better! In no particular order, here are the movies I’m most excited for.

BLACK PANTHER

“Black Panther” is the latest Marvel movie. Not only is the storyline cool, but Ryan Coogler, the director, is fantastic. Sometimes Marvel movies get a bit boring and repetitive, but with a director like Coogler, it has to be good.

READY PLAYER ONE

“Ready Player One”, based off the science fiction novel of the same title, is directed by Steven Spielberg. Anything by Spielberg is going to be very solid, and the trailer looks great.

BEAUTIFUL BOY

“Beautiful Boy” stars Timothee Chalamet, the outbreak star of “Call Me By Your Name”, and Steve Carell. The two play son and father, and Timothee’s character struggles with meth addiction. Definitely a dark film, but I’m so excited to watch these two incredible actors work together.

LEAN ON PETE

So “Lean on Pete” is about a homeless teenage boy who runs away with his horse or something…? Yeah, I don’t know too much about this one. But it stars Charlie Plummer, who just received an Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for “All the Money in the World”, and I’m expecting good things from this movie.

IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK

Barry Jenkins, the director of “Moonlight”, is releasing a new film this year. I’m not sure what it’s about, but I love Jenkins and would watch anything by him.

SUSPIRIA (the remake)

Luca Guadagnino, director of “Call Me By Your Name”, is making a remake of the 1977 horror movie “Suspiria.” Again, I’d watch anything by Guadagnino. He’s going to do such unique things, and I can’t wait. It also stars Dakota Johnson.

BOY ERASED

“Boy Erased” is based off a memoir about a boy who was sent to a gay conversion camp. It stars Lucas Hedges, a really talented young actor, and Nicole Kidman. Again, what a great combination of people working together, and I think this film is going to be great.

OCEAN’S 8

“Ocean’s 8” stars Rihanna, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Awkwafina, and James Corden. I really don’t have to say anything else.

FIRST MAN

“First Man” is a historical period drama about Neil Armstrong. It’s directed by Damien Chazelle, the director of “La La Land”, whose style I really love. It also stars Ryan Gosling (who worked with Chazelle in “La La Land”) and Claire Foy.

ANNIHILATION

“Annihilation” is fantasy thriller, and it has a celebrity-packed cast including Natalie Portman and Gina Rodriguez. Just based on the trailer alone, the visuals look very cool.

THE DEATH AND LIFE OF JOHN F. DONOVAN

“The Death and Life of John F. Donovan” is directed by Xavier Dolan, who I’m such a big fan of. He’s made amazing, amazing movies, especially for being so young, and he’s also Canadian, haha! This movie stars Kit Harington, Jessica Chastain, and Natalie Portman.

LOVE, SIMON

Nick Robinson in “Love, Simon” (photo courtesy of 20th Century Fox).

“Love, Simon” will be super cheesy and cliche, which generally, I really dislike. BUT – it is cool that an LGBT movie is being made for teenagers, and I do think that it will be really cute. It’s based off a book called “Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda” by Becky Albertalli, which is similarly cheesy and cute, if you wanted to pick that up.

THE 15:17 TO PARIS

Clint Eastwood’s film “The 15:17 to Paris” tells the real-life story of three men who sprang to action when terrorists took over a train in France. What’s so interesting about this movie is that the three men are actually playing themselves in the movie. I’m not quite sure how it’ll turn out, but I’m excited to see how they do it.

And that just about wraps up my list for 2018 movies to watch out for! Am I missing any? Let me know in the comment below!
