If you asked me to name every single SZA song I would bet you $100 I could name every single one off the top of my head. Unfortunately for you, this scenario is rigged in my favor as I have done it before, very easily. You could call me a SZA- pro, or SZA expert, or super fan I suppose. All of this is to say you must listen to her two famous albums if you have not already. For you SZA newbies: her albums are quite lengthy, so use this as a guide to listen to songs to fit your mood.
Below is her 2017 album Ctrl and I have included her 6 deluxe songs from Ctrl (Deluxe) released in 2022. For a special insight, I have included my opinions on the top 10 songs.
1. Tread Carefully (from the deluxe album)
-
-
- Szas’ song Tread Carefully has a unique song set up, making it unpredictable the first time you listen to it. The chorus is two lines, and only repeats twice. The 2 minutes and 55 seconds of this song describes the complexity of romantic relationships, making it a very relatable song for lots of viewers. The soundtrack of this song, and the relatable lyrics make Tread Carefully easily this albums number 1 song.
-
2. Broken Clocks
-
-
- Broken Clocks is one of this album’s more lyric heavy songs that talks about the lack of time when working extremely hard. Additionally, the song touches on the difficulty of leaving past situations and moving on. The emotional lyrics and relatability of this song make Broken Clocks a strong number 2. However, this song is number 2 not only for the lyrics, but for the incredible beat throughout the whole song.
-
3. Drew Barrymore
-
-
- Drew Barrymore is essentially tied for 2nd place for all of the same reasons. This is a very lyric heavy song that discusses that loneliness and sadness that comes with being an outcast. This is an amazing song to belt out in the shower. This song is ranked three instead of two because it is a little bit of a slower song with less upbeat moments, and I personally enjoy the bursts of upbeat moments.
-
4. The Weekend
- The Weekend possibly has the best backtrack of any song in this album. Pop in some airpods, put on this song, and you will jam. For me, listening to this song’s not about the lyrics, it’s about listening to the sounds and singing along. The tone and tempo changes so smoothly throughout the song, making it a great listen.
5. Love Galore (feat. Travis Scott)
- Love Galore (feat travis scott) is ranked highly because of Travis Scott’s verse in it. The song overall is so good, with really meaningful lyrics, about regret and anger when it comes to relationships. And then Travis Scott comes in with a fire verse. He sings and raps, and continues on with the overall message of the song. His verse is flawlessly executed, making this song #5.
6. Normal Girl
-
-
- Normal Girl is ranked #6 for its relatability to all girls. This song talks about the desire to be enough for relationships, whether they are platonic, romantic, or familial.
-
7. Love Galore (alt version)
-
-
- Love Galore (Alt version) is ranked highly because of Szas’ verse in it. This song came out with the deluxe version, and the world was shocked to see a recreation of the original song (which includes Travis Scott). Szas’ verse showcases her confidence, and when singing this song, listeners feel this confidence. Her verse is so catchy, and it is the sole reason this song is ranked in the top 10.

8. 2 AM (from the deluxe album)
- 2 AM is such a great listen. Right off the bat you are hit with an amazing sounding bass which continues throughout the song. Not only does the song sound amazing, it is super relatable (SZA is definitely on to something with her retability).
9. Wavy (Interlude) (feat. James Fauntleroy)
-
-
- The catchyness of this song carries it up the list to number 9. This song is only 1 minute and 15 seconds long which aids to the catchyness of it. Wavy (interlude) is a quick listen, but worth it everytime.
-
10. Awkward (from the deluxe album)
-
-
- Awkward wraps up the top 10. Awkward is number 10 solely because of the second verse. It is very catchy and it sounds different from the rest of the song. During your first listen of Awkward, this verse will catch your attention and it will be the sole reason you click “rewind.”

12. Garden (Say It Like Dat)
13. 20 Something
14. Anything
15. Prom
16. Supermodel
17. Pretty Little Birds (feat. Isaiah Rashad)
18. Miles (from the deluxe album)
