On September 13th, 2025, Charlotte FC took on Inter Miami in a clash that was not only huge in the playoff race, but also gave Charlotte an opportunity to equal the all time consecutive wins record, which was held by the 2018 Seattle Sounders, with 9.
Early on, Miami dominated the possession and eventually won a penalty in the 31st minute, with Djibril Diani bringing Lionel Messi down inside the penalty area. With a big chance to open up the
scoring on the road, Messi stepped up, but Goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina stood tall and parried the panenka away to safety. Finally, FC sealed the deal, as Miami was taken down to 10 men after Tomás Avilés pulled Toklomati back, receiving a 2nd yellow card, before Sergio Busquets pulled Wilfred Zaha down inside the box giving Toklomati the opportunity to score his first career hat trick, which he did, burying it in the bottom corner, allowing Charlotte to equal the MLS consecutive wins record as they defeated Lionel Messi and Inter Miami 3-0.
