A new plaza named Waverly recently opened just minutes away from Charlotte Latin, housing a number of shops and restaurants. What used to be acres of construction is now smoothed streets and new stores.

“I love Waverly,” Emma Hallock ‘19 said. “I love living so close to it.”

A few of the open restaurants include Panera Bread, Viva Chicken, Chick-fil-A, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Chuy’s Tex-Mex, Firehouse Subs, Starbucks, Ted’s Montana Grill, Taziki’s, CO, and The Porter’s House.

“CO is a new Asian fusion restaurant at Waverly,” Bailey Nemirow ‘18 said. “It’s amazing! My spicy udon noodles were really good. Highly recommend.”

Besides restaurants, Waverly also recently opened Whole Foods, Ulta, and CVS, along with a nail salon, a pet store, a dry cleaners, and a spa.

“The only thing missing is a movie theater!” Hallock said. “But I think it’s cool place and there’s still a lot being made, so I’m excited to see what else they can pack in there.”

Although its proximity to Charlotte Latin and central South Charlotte location makes Waverly a great addition, the increase of traffic is clear.

“It’s much busier now,” Adam Riescher ‘19 said, traveling down Providence Road to 485 North on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Despite the few extra minutes spent on the road, the variety in shops and restaurants make up for it.

“I especially like Viva Chicken and Chipotle, so yes, it’s worth it,” Martha Watson ‘18 said.
